This photo is of 'Big' Harry as a young man. No idea of when or where it was taken but I think he looks to be about eighteen which would date it as 1914.

I have since learned he was believed by the family at the time to have been killed in WW1. But to their surprise he returned safely in 1919 to find that, by then, his mother had had another son and named him Harry (my father).

So this appears to be the reason why there were two Harrys and he became known as 'Big' Harry.

In ANC151 Harry is on the left. My father is nineteen years his junior! I think this was taken at Big Harry's bungalow in Wickford, Essex around 1954 which would make Big Harry 58 years old

 

ANC149 is Big Harry's second wife Violet(Lily), again at the bungalow.
